Sapporo ended with a razor edge, and when the sun came up and overpowered the glow of the city on the western horizon, all trace of its existence was gone. We were in wheat country, a doppelgΓ€nger of a Central European land but one built on an American scale, and we walked its straight roads, bewildered.
