The land opened up and became hotter and dustier with each step, and the portions of food served for lunch grew with the landscape. The washbowls of ramen and the mountains of meat, sized for day-long agricultural work performed almost entirely with machines now, were eaten by pleasantly overfed people with shiny pink skin.
